Personally id say invest in a cheap bass guitar. I used to record my basslines with my electric guitars either
by tuning the guitar in barritone tuning or recording in standard tuning and then mess around with the -db until i reached
wanted result. BUT about a year ago i got myself a cheap bass guitar (i guess i paid around 70$) and its one of my best investments. i find that allthough some vsti basses sound great and realistic-ish in the end you can usually tell its "fake"
(of course depending on playing style and genre but still..) and i can with tweaqing the settings in mixcraft make my cheap bass sound awsome. There are usually ways to work around just bout anything, but in my personal experience getting an actual bass made a huge difference :D
