AIR plugin not showing up in MC

Post by dung_beetle »

I was thinking of getting the AIR xpand! 2 plugin, but for some reason it won't show up in MC.
It is in the VST folder and does show up in another DAW, where I have been using it for hours now. I have rescanned everything in MC, still not showing up...
Does MC not handle iLok stuff? That AIR thingy is the first iLok plugin I have ever tried, so maybe it is because of that?

Hi,

Looks like it's a 64-bit only plugin. Do you have 64-bit Mixcraft installed?

No, 32-bit, but it does work in 32-bit Mulab, and I was asked for the 32 and the 64-bit folder during installation.

Hi,

If that's the case, their system requirements page is misleading. I'll see if I can get it working.

If you like, you can submit a support request and send us your mixcraft-log file so we can see if there are any clues in there. You could look at the log file yourself. Just search for the name of the plugin and see whether there are any errors and whether it's finding the plugin in your 32-bit VST folder.

Hm, found something interesting in the log file, it seems the synth is considered an effect for some reason...

Thinking about it, does MC have a problem with the ! in the name of the plugin?

Hi,

That's normal. It says that for Acoustica Instruments and other virtual instruments.

In the pathname that you truncated, was the plugin in Program Files or Program Files (x86)?

Other people have successfully used Xpand 2 with Mixcraft in the past. submit an Acoustica Support Request and we'll check it out.

Neither, it is in my custom VST folder on my desktop, just like all the other plugins, all of which work just fine. If it had to do with the plugin itself, it would not work flawlessly in Mulab i think...

I just removed the exclamation mark from the dll name and now it is listed and works :) Seems MC might indeed have a problem with special characters in dll names...

Interestingly, it is no longer listed as an effect in the log file, either.

Hi,

No, that's not the problem. It loaded just fine for me with both 32- and 64-bit Mixcraft. Here's a log entry from 32-bit Mixcraft:

Loading VST: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\Xpand!2.dll
Loaded VST.

Something else must be going on. I just let it install into its default folders.

I must say, the activation reminders on this trial version are quite annoying.

Strange. here the ! seems to have made all the difference. Maybe it is a Windows issue, I still use W7...

Yes, that nag screen does its job well :P
But that thing sounds really good, I think I will buy it :)

Hi,

Other people have used Xpand!2 with earlier versions of Windows and have never reported a problem like that. It's hard to say what happened. Maybe seeing the log file from when it wasn't loading would have helped reveal the mystery.

Just out of curiosity I inserted the ! back in again and the plugin is no longer listed in MC.

I will contact them and tell them to remove the !
No idea how it works on other people's computers, it has only been available as a VST since late 2014.

Hi,

It is a really nice virtual synth. Fun to play with!

Yes, I'd heard from someone back in 2014. He was having a problem that was due to having MIDI notes on different channels. He had a MIDI clip with notes on different channels, but he had Xpand!2 set to play only the notes on MIDI channel 1.

Hi,

Another thought: are you running Windows in English language mode, or a different language? Maybe that's the difference.
