Midi Note Duration Til Next Note

Post by Stephan »

Hello Mixcraft family!

I hope all of you are doing well.
I have a question. Is there a way to have Mixcraft automatically adjust a note's duration so that it is sustained until the next note begins?

I am currently in the Sound tab in Mixcraft and I'm looking at the "Step Sequencer". I see my midi notes and I want each note's duration to be as long as it has to be UNTIL the next note begins. I don't want any overlapping notes. (I know I can accomplish that by using "SOLOIZE"). But is there a way to have Mixcraft adjust all note duration til the next note?

I'm not aware of an automatic way to do this, I think this would be labled as a Lagato feature, this is the closest I know of but suspect you already know of this.
Insert 16th notes, with snap to grid on, change the snap to grid to OFF.
Click on a note and it will change colour to show that its in edit.
Drag the note length as I did with E3.
Hold Ctrl and you can select a few notes as a group to edit at once.
Double click (for instance) G4 on the piano key and all G4 notes in the row you can edit together.
You need to write in notation to achieve this using ties and other symbols.

Hi Mick.

Thanks so much for the reply. Yes, I did know about that, but nonetheless, I appreciate you for taking the time to respond.

It seems what I'm asking for would be a great feature addition to Mixcraft then.

Thanks again.

Oh and Mick,

I forgot to say that the method you're advocating for would only work if every note was the same duration. There is a project I'm working on where notes of the same key have different durations.

If you want to reduce (or increase) the length of multiple notes by the same degree (even if they are different lengths), selecting them all, switching off the 'Snap to Grid' function and dragging them would achieve the desired result (it has worked for me anyway). Though maybe that's not what you want.

Don't know enough details to understand if it helps, but its possible you could also quantize the note ends to achieve some of what you want, depending on the specific details.
Stay in tune, Mark
