Is there a way to level cymbal crashes in drum mix?

Post by MRJONAH »

I used Mixcraft 7 and EZDrummer 2. After I mixed the drums I noticed some crashes were louder than others. I know the best thing to do is remix. But is there a way, eq or lpf that would lower them without hurting mix?

Could you not adjust the velocity of the cymbal crash in the midi map?

You may try locating the Body and Attack of those Cymbals and use a Dynamic EQ to tame them. You can also try making a Parallel Mix and in that Mix, significantly lower down the crash hits using a Static EQ see if it works.

You can try the Velocity but depending on the Samples, they might or might not give you the results you need. It could just give you a less intense hit at the same volume level. But, there's a like a bar at the lower left corner where you could choose Velocity and other Parameters, there's a Volume there.

Thanks for the replies.
@spiralsofdanu I did take a look at the velocities of all of the cymbals I thought were at 50.
When I saw what the problem was. I had clips on the midi track one for verse one chorus.
The chorus cymbals were on 127.
