Oldie but a goodie...

Post by Freerskier »

Just trying to add vocals via a Blue USB mic.

Its actually on a song that already has vocals.

I have an EMU card, mic is plugged in and Mixcraft said it detected a new device all good. Arm and audio track and insure I have preferences set to ASIO (unchanged) do the obilgatory "2, 2, 2, - testinb" into the mic and there is no level.

Mic is on and not muted, gain is up.

Im baffled.

Your doing it wrong!

Everyone knows its "testing 1,2. testing 1,2."
Sheesh. 8)

When you arm the track, next to the arm button is an arrow. Open the drop down menu, what is the input selected?

I'm away from my pc for now.

But I had "monitor incoming audio" selected plus sound card ticked and stereo.

In many attempts I deselected monitor incoming.

Also turned acoustics off and back on again just in case.

I am not familiar with that specific USB mic, but if it works like those I have used-
In the lower half of the box, there should be the option for your USB mic instead of the soundcard. You need it to be set as your input device.

And it should be set to mono, not stereo. Unless there's something fancy going on with that mic.

"Monitor incoming signal" determines if you are monitoring the incoming signal, or monitoring the signal from the DAW, including any processors or effects. Trying both is good, but shouldn't be relevant to the question.

I don't know what you meant by turning "acoustics" off and on. Lost me there.

No option for the mic on the drop down.

Hence the bafflement as a while ago (quite a while ago) I recorded vocals onto the song using the exact same combination/set up.

I gave a stupid simple set up too. Not good for the old workflow. My heart says this should be simple. Plug in , select, record/play. But hey.....

That is your problem. If there is no option then MC has not found it.

So the message - and I'm paraphrasing - "mixcraft had detected a new device" when I plug it in is just a guide?

Ok so how do I fix the problem.

Go into preferences and select it as your recording device.

That's the nub of the problem there aj.

Mixcraft reports that it knows 'there is a new device attacehd' but it does not show up in preferences.

Ive used the same mic on the same song albeit a few weeks ago. Just wanna record some additional vocals as you'd imagine.

Have you changed USB ports? Sometimes this confuses windows. Try a different port! :D

I haven't changed ports but hey - but should I try that. At this stage, I'm game for a laugh.

Considering just plugging a different mic into my mixer rather than the higher quality condenser USB I bought specifically for recording vocals.

Hi,

The USB mic won't show up under ASIO, because it doesn't have an ASIO driver. Try it in WaveRT mode.
