Mixcraft 8 and Kontakt Player

Post by kenrob2037 »

Hi Everyone,

I imagine many people are successfully using Kontakt Player in MX 8, unfortunately, I'm not one.

I am clearly doing something wrong, as I can't get any instruments to appear in Kontakt.

I'd really like for Native Instruments to have a clear download, setup and run instructions, but I've looked everywhere it does not exist.

I was hoping that someone here could help with download, setup and run instructions for Kontakt Player and using it in Mixcraft 8.

Cheers

Do you have instruments appear in Kontakt player when run in standalone mode?
In Kontakt Players upper left hand corner, click on Libraries to see your instruments

Sometimes I think its just me, but I hate the thing. Really. Used it a while back, worked in Mixcraft 6 and 7. Never reinstalled it or my purchased NI library when I migrated to a new computer.
Havent missed that headache for a moment.

As far as I can tell, I've done everything that Native says to do to get it to work, put it still has no instruments in the library.

I can't beleive that something so many call the industry standard for working with sound libraries that they don't even have a video showing people how to set it up!

I'm doing a Uni course (which I start early next year) and they use it for most sounds sets.

Guess I'll have to wait until I can talk to them.

Cheers

Hi Rob,

Every company can be busy and not have the right staff on hand.
Do you know your way around Windoze? If so Totally uninstall Kontakt
via a 3rd party uninstaller. Try this http://klocmansoftware.weebly.com/
is free and trust me its safe. If you know how to search the registry then
search for "Kontakt" and delete all entries.

Then Reinstall.

I installed Kontakt on a new computer that never had it installed, so I'm not sure that would make a difference.

Thanks

If you're talking about the full player, then I'm sure that needs to phone home in order to be activated. I have no problems with using Kontakt or Reaktor with MC8.

Hey TC,

It’s just player I’m using. Can you tell me how you got it to work in Windows, because I have downloaded it with the factory sounds and I can not find a sound in the library, even though I have set the paths up as they suggest.

I’m running Win 10.

Cheers

I don't recall anything special about installation, but its been a while.

I do recall having some various problems and getting little or no support from them. The usual "sorry we don't support that host" kind of responses. Again, a long time ago, things may have changed.

What I do distinctly remember is having a lot of trouble figuring out how to get the instruments set up and functioning. The program just made no sense to me.
At first I thought it was just me, being an old fart and all. But then I talked to many others who seemed to agree the program is frustrating to use.

Now, with perseverance I did eventually get into some basic functionality. But I am not sure how much I can help.....
Are you just not seeing the expected instruments in your Kontakt library/menu? Or are you not seeing them populate the instrument slots in Kontakt when selected? Or is the problem just no sound output when expected?
(I seem to recall struggling with all three issues)

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned and I missed it.

Kontakt Player (the free version of Kontakt) only works with instrument (libraries) that are made for it. Which libraries have you purchased (the player is free but almost none of the Player-compatible libraries are free)? The answer to that question will help us determine whether my guess is correct.

EDIT: did you download and install the free "Kontakt Factory Selection" as described here:

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/p ... -download/

From memory, there is a refresh or import button you have to hit in Kontakt somewhere for it to import the libraries.

You have the libraries on your computer and the path(s) set in Kontakt but there is one more step so Kontakt can import or "see" the libraries.

Hi Guys,

Yes I did download the Factory Selection, and installed it as recommended, but I can not find any sounds or instrumnets. Actually, I got something called Native Access when I downloaded the Factory Selection, all it contained is Kontakt Player and Reaktor 6, both of which are empty.

I have searched all folders where they say Factory Selection is, but I can't find anything. There's nothing in my Library.

I'm going to have a go at downloading some other free Kontakt instruments and see what happens.

Cheers

Hi,

The only free Kontakt insruments you will be able to use on the player are those from NI. All others require the full version of Kontakt to work.

There have neen massive problems with Native Access ever since it was introduced (in every DAW, btw). NI has really dropped the ball on this one bigtime.

One thing you might do if you haven't already is to try to access your libraries through the 'files' tab rather than the 'library' tab.

Also if your account allows it, try downgrading your player from 5.7.x or 5.6.x to 5.5.x and see if that helps.
