Hey all,

still having folder problems. I keep losing files, or mixcraft does. When I want to open a project
it's gone!

How are people organizing their folders/ files? I've never had another program with this
issue.

thanks

I've just fixed a problem here where no projects after October last year were appearing when I went to 'open project'.
It turns out that it was opening the directory on my backup drive rather than Drive C, but this was not apparent for quite some time. I thought navigating back to the C Drive directory would sort it for next time, but it kept happening. Eventually after trying to find the setting in the AppData and ProgramData and getting nowhere for a day I opted to edit the registry using 'Regedit', locating each 'Mixcraft' entry using the 'Find' command and manually deleting the value
for the Project files Directory (I can't remember what it was called) by clicking it to bring up the value then manually deleting it

Hi,

Are the files on a removable drive? Are you moving files around or renaming folders? If a file is at a particular location on a particular drive, Mixcraft will always find it. If you disconnect a removable drive and then connect it again, and it ends up with a different drive letter, then the files would be "missing." We can't say what's going on in your particular situation without knowing more about what you're doing. The devil is in the details.

Are you using the default MY DOCUMENTS/MIXCRAFT PROJECTS folder?

Within, I have project folders. Such as this brilliantly named "New Song" folder.

Note- the folders Mixcraft 8 project 1 etc. In my case, those are always empty. Simply because I dont use them. They are created by default to help you if you dont create your own folder.

Inside my folder are project files, audio files, etc. The project likes to find them all together like that......

Another note: The back up folder is also created by default. I never seem to need them (knock on wood) ut once in a while if you get a crash and lose work, it can get you going again from a previous version.

Save often.

Mark,

Here's how it works: if you create a new project, Mixcraft makes a folder called Mixcraft 8 Project n. The first time you save your project, that folder is renamed to whatever you named your project.

That, coupled with the "delete unused recordings" option is probably why those folders are empty, you never saved those projects for some reason.

Yeah, I knew that-
Sorry, I should have clearly made note that my way is slightly unconventional

Thinking about it, I think it "evolved" that way due to two factors:
One related to keeping things straight in my head back in MX 5 or 6 when the audio file naming convention was causing confusion.
The other- I am frequently importing projects or stems from other DAWs as a whole for mixing or collaborating with others and I think it just became habit.

The good news- It consistently works for me without issue. 8)

thanks guys,

I will study these responses, since this is my main problem with Mixcraft.

Actually, my problem here has reoccurred. It'll be to do with Windows Documents folder. Several months ago I created a shortcut to it on the desktop then later tried deleting the shortcut and it deleted the actual folder (losing months of my workings that I hadn't backed up). Apparently Windows treats any reference to the Documents folder as the folder itself so presumably now that I have referenced the backup drive version directly once in October within Mixcraft it thinks it's the Drive C version (which it isn't) so my most recently saved files appear to have disappeared everytime I load the program now

Hi,

When you delete files in Windows, they go into your Recycle Bin folder. If you haven't emptied your Recycle Bin, any files you've deleted would still be there and you could right-click to restore them.

Yes, but unfortunately that only applies if you don't typically press Shift+Delete which I stupidly find hard to get out of the habit of doing ... I did manage to get most things back, but it was a mess

What a great name for a song! and all those Capo positions!? Probably best stick with "All In The Note", as Howard Jones already went with New Song (and I'm old enough to remember it *sigh*)

I figured you might find something familiar about that image. 8)

It was just handy at that moment for some reason.
