Not Specific to Mixcraft :Why are there no Delays triggered by threshold ?

Post by Ian Craig »

I know this is not Specific to Mixcraft, but why are there no Delays triggered by threshold ?
i.e. imagine an emphasized note or spoken or sung word which gets a delay FX while the others pass through unaffected. This is what I am looking for and I don't think they exist.
... I emailed Saverio at HoRNeT Plugins to ask if he could possibly make one, so hopefully he will, soon.
... A reverse polarity switch could produce the reverse effect and with 2 instances of the plugin it would be possible to have two different input level FX, for example one with high Feedback settings the other with low.
... Hang on, maybe Melda Productions MDelayMB could do it, but their plugins are so complicated it may take days to work out how to do it

Again, not Mixcraft specific, but you get the idea

Do you mean 'delay throws' - ie automating delay on certain words? There are a few vids on YouTube like this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv-P2RlIo00

If I understand the desired results correctly- You lost me on the "reverse polarity-2 instances-reverse effect portion". That's kind of complicated, but as you point out, there's some pretty complicated plug ins out there.....

Perhaps simply using a send bus and putting a gate before the delay, so only the signal above the gated threshold triggered the delay would automate the desired effect?
I have to experiment with that, its actually an interesting idea Ian. 8)

Edit: After going back to Kenny's tutorial that Trevor linked to, It occurs to me you wouldn't commonly have a vocal with significantly emphasized portions, or the necessary areas of amplitude to trigger it in this way. In fact, most vocal processing goes to great effort to eliminate most of that.....

I'd typically automate it similar to what Kenny shows there or use a side chained compressor to turn down the effect during the vocal phrase and just allow the tail through. This can work on reverb as well.

That guys a prolific creator of tutorial content.
*Taking note of a few very handy automation editing tools there.......... (hint)

+1 for the sidechain (ducking delay)

But this gave me an idea for a tool that could be made with MUX modular plugin. ;)

Yes, this is the kind of thing that Meldaproduction builds into their plug-ins, and I would be very surprised if MDelayMB could not be set up to do it.

I know that their stuff is so feature-packed and powerful under the hood that you can make a career out of setting up the hidden parameters, but at least their forum at KVR rivals our own in terms of helpfulness. They'll usually steer you in the direction of what you want to do.

Also, if you wait, the $49 price will eventually make its way through the "eternal madness" rotation and you'll be able to snag it for half that.

They certainly do include a number of "what the hell does this do?" buttons, don't they?

So much homework to do, so little time.........

Thanks Guys,
I am trying out the gated send idea. It has potential, thanks Trev.
Yeah, I own lots of Melda Plugins but I didn't know about a forum, nice one Starship.
Yeah, I spent an entire month, November 2016, Just working at MTransformer. I ended up understanding what I had learned but had really barely scratched the surface of the thing.
