Custom control surface mapping?

Post by elaw »

Does anyone know if it's possible to create your own custom control surface mapping in Mixcraft?

I'm looking for something small, cheap, and super-simple to act as a transport control device for MC. Basically just something with play/stop, record, and go-to-beginning/go-to-end buttons. No faders or anything else. For me the ideal design would be RF wireless and handheld, almost like a TV remote. Or alternatively, a small device that could sit on a desk.

I've done some looking and can't seem to find anything that fits that description. The Mixcraft remote app comes pretty close (and is wonderful by the way) but I'd rather have dedicated hardware than use my phone.

So what I'm thinking I could do is buy an off-the-shelf device that's made for another purpose, like this: https://www.amazon.com/DinoFire-Wireles ... ion+remote or this: https://www.amazon.com/JBonest-Numeric- ... ypad&psc=1

Both of those devices send keystrokes to the PC, as if they were keyboards (the kind you type on, not the musical kind). So if there was a way to custom-map keystrokes to MIxcraft's transport controls, I'd be set!

I've got a Korg Nanokontrol 2 that is great for my needs. Small, easy to map and use. I know you said no faders but they do come in really handy.

I've been lazy about it, but I'm going to assign keyboard shortcuts to the wheel and keys on this:

It's hard to find a tablet for the < $15 the devices I linked above cost!

Fair enough, but I suspect that once you started using TouchOSC or similar software on a tablet you wouldn't turn back.

Maybe... but I'm by no means a sophisticated MC user. I'm just a hobbyist and for my current needs, it really seems like "record-stop-play-stop" is about all I need.
