Ryzen 7 1700 users ?

Post by KStech »

Considering a Ryzen build, anyone running R3, R5,R7 ?
Can Mixcraft 8 pro keep up with 8 core 16 threads ?
or will it choke at a certain thread count ?

2 weeks ago my brother gave me a computer with a Ryzen 6 core and I finally stopped feeling like I was operating in the crawl space I'd been in since I started using virtual instruments/effects in 2012. Unfortunately I connected a USB DVD burner to the wrong power supply after finding it didn't recognise discs and the processor or board died. Anyway, I have a Ryzen 8 core arriving by tonight to replace it. If it keeps working it will be the answer as far as I'm concerned. I will find out in due course. We tried my system in another machine he had (using a CPU heavy VSTi and multiple Virtual FX) and what had used 0-2% of the CPU with the six core was using 11% in the other machine. He didn't think there was much difference between the machines, but he only plays games. It was all the difference I needed to decide to buy the 8 core. If it was the motherboard that got fried, I'll have to spend the last of my money on one of them too but I'll then presumably have a spare processor, So I'll be happy enough with that. (I'll update, if it was the motherboard).

Thanks for the response Ian, I too will receive my Ryzen system by tomorrow, and will test it to the max.
I hope you get your system up and running again.
Let's compare our progress here, i guess we will see what happens.
Note: Receiving Asus Rog Strix B350-F motherboard and Ryzen 7 1700 cpu.

Mixcraft will process each track on a different core, given the chance -- so the more, the merrier.

Primary test:

Testsong "I can't go on this way" (provided by Mixcraft 8 Pro sample songs)
* USB audio device,44.1khz @ 512 samples

On my standard travel workhorse AMD-desktop-rig (quad core @ 3.6ghz)
Windows 7 Ultimate.
CPU:Mixcraft and System resources: 15% to as much as 46%

Ryzen 7 1700 CPU & Rog Strix B350-f motherboard tested on *Win7 Ultimate and *Win10
Win7 -CPU: Mixcraft and System resources: 1 % to 10%
Win10 -CPU: Mixcraft and System resources: 1 % to 5 %
Mixcraft 8 Pro utilizes all 8 cores and 16 threads when required under additional test loads
and totally rocks with Ryzen, performance is stellar !

Summary:
Although i luv my Windows 7,(and hated Win10) it was obvious where Win10 comes into play.
(I believe Mixcraft 8 Pro was built on the Win10 platform)
A high performance CPU and motherboard with Win 10 (clean install)
had far less issues and far better overall streamlined performance
with Mixcraft ,my additional software, and all my hardware toys.
Win10 advantages are not very noticeable on lower and mid-range PCs
but sure does shine on high end rigs.
So far i haven't had a single issue with Mixcraft on a Ryzen rig.
Mixcraft 8 Pro blazes along happily, and is a beast on Ryzen !

Great info KStech, thanks.
I've just got my system back after the 8 core was found to be dead on arrival and have just got the replacement from Amazon into the machine yesterday. Working great here so far too. :D

Hey, late to the party, but I wanted to mention that I have an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 3.4GHz and have no problems using Mixcraft 8 Pro Studio.

'Welcome aboard !'
"Hi board"
'"No, it wasn't a high board, it was a good dive though'"
'Hey, did he just call my place a dive? I'm hurt'
"Not John Hurt ?"
'"No, he's dead, didn't you know?'"
"Hey man, I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were dead"

Hey, will you shut up ?!

Yeah, sorry :D
