How can I frequency duck in Mixcraft 8?

Post by ChimeraUK »

Does anyone know how to frequency duck in Mixcraft?

Basically what I'm looking to do is use an EQ to scoop out a frequency range in a competing instrument but I just want it to trigger when the second instrument is playing.

I'm guessing this will need some kind of sidechain setup which I'm not 100% sure how to do in MC8. I do have Fab Filter which allows for a sidechain source but not sure how to set that up.

Can anyone help..?

Hello.

Watch this:

It's compressor sidechaining but should give you the general idea.

Those more "in the know" will probably be able to help specifically with EQ sidechaining.

Dale.

Hi,

Mixcraft 8 has a cool feature that people don't seem to talk about much, called Audio Control. It allows you to use the audio from a track to control any parameter in a plugin. Check out this video: Using Audio Control in Mixcraft 8.

Sidechaining requires the plugin to specifically support sidechaining, but you can use Audio Control with any plugin.

Greg, when you go to the link it pops up a buy Mixcraft now pop-up. When you try to close the pop up it takes you to your product page and you can't play the video? :D

Hi,

That pop-up should only show up once, so if you try again, it should work. Of course, the pop-up is for an old sale, and it shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Here's a direct link to the YouTube video: Using Mixcraft 8's Audio Control feature.

Greg, the link works for me, but the "sale" popup shows up for me periodically, which is odd since the dates show the promotion has expired. BTW, that's a great deal, one that I took advantage of. Well, actually I did the cross-grade deal from Tracktion, but same price.

Also, the audio control does look like a cool feature. I am assuming that's different but similar to automation.

Hi,

Yes, kind of like automation, but the audio from a track controls an effect or virtual instrument in real time, so it would be perfect for OP's problem.
