Scheps OmniChannel locks up (kinda)
Evening,
I just picked up a copy of the Waves Scheps Omni channel plugin which is installed as 2 separate plugins, mono and stereo. I've noticed that the stereo plugin will lock up immediately (a failure has been detected) on the instrument selection window if you even touch it, but it runs fine from the channel. The mono plugin works both places.
Any thoughts?

I might have answered my own question - I was just testing it with the default piano open when it misbehaved, but when I used Pianissimo instead it works fine. I guess you need to use a mono plugin with a mono track eh? Is the stock Acoustica Piano mono?

Nope, runs fine with a Kontakt upright bass but not a drum kit.

Mine seems to work without locking up. And if you look at the default piano preset, you see-stereo grand. So it looks like it's stereo. Not sure what's going on with your stereo plug.

Hard reset seems to help.

Nope, seems to be completely random. Will lock up on a track, reboot MC and it's fine.
Hmph.

Some plug ins just have issues sometimes with MC, I've got a couple of their plugs and their whole Wave Central process is a pita but they do update their plugs all the time so there could be something there, I've never had an issue though. Another reminder to save your work often!
You could save a log file next time it crashes and send it to support to find out more.

I have used Omni quite a bit. Don't recall any specific problems directly related to it, with the exception of VST3. No advantage there so I just don't do that.
It was one of a small group of plug ins that were getting dumped by another plug in problem. Eliminated that one.
It's a "busy" plug-in that under some conditions uses more RAM than other typical plugs, you might find an issue with that.

Evening,
Let me ask you this then, does it make a difference if I use the channel strip in the instrument window or as a track effect? I've been trying to do the initial EQ and compression on the instrument panel to get it before the fader for gain-staging reasons, but maybe this doesn't matter in a digital environment?
The plugin works fine on the tracks.

Umm.... What?
What do you mean "instrument window" to start with? I'm lost!

Re: Scheps OmniChannel locks up (kinda)
Ah! That makes sense.
Once again, I have to admit I'm not much of a MIDI/synth user. Obviously.
I've never placed an effect insert there.
I know of no reason that shouldn't work, but I would use a channel strip as a track insert, not an instrument effect.
