I have a M-Audio CTRL49... it'll be very similar to Akai under the hood since they're related. After setting up the CTRL49 in the settings (which is very easy to do - lots of very helpful videos from MC University), it went straight to work with no problems. So I would imagine that the Akai MPK249 will play fine too.
Thank you Tony, I ordered the Akai MPK249 this morning online from Sweetwater. :)

To be honest, I went for the CTRL49 because it comes shipped with VIP. Otherwise, I probably would have bought the Akai. :D

Hi Tony, I don’t know what VIP is, but hopefully you’re happy... I’m really looking forward to my new controller. :)
