I use a Scarlett 2i2 for my interface.
When I record using head phones I would like to be able to lower volume on guitar only coming through headphone. I record to a drum beat and guitar is always too loud.
I'm using studio pro 8. Is there a control that would enable me to control volume on individual tracks when monitoring?

The fader for that track would be the best option, turn down guitar to taste.

The thing is I don't want to turn down guitar level for recording if that is what your saying. I just want to turn monitoring down.

If I’m not mistaken turning down the guitar fader won’t change the recording input level, only the the playback monitoring volume, so give it a try. However, I could be mistaking... it’s been a while since I used my old 1st gen 2i2 because I upgraded to a 2nd gen 2i4 which has a Input/Playback knob, which really helps with getting a desired balance, a big plus over the 2i2.

Set the recording level with the track fader for your guitar track and adjust the overall volume with the master track fader and the drum level with it's track fader. The master fader will not bother your recording level for you guitar track.

If you're using WaveRT (or Wave) mode the track volume slider controls playback volume when the track is not armed. When the track is armed, it controls recording volume.

In ASIO mode, there is no track volume slider when the track is armed and the recording volume is controlled by your hardware.

Thank you but let me try and clarify. When track is armed for recording I see no fader right above arm button when armed. Also on mixer there is no fader when track is armed. When track is not armed the faders are there. I only can control input when armed with amp volume and gain pot on Scarlett interface. When track is armed I have no faders in mixcraft.
I do not want to lower my recording input I want to lower the volume in head phone monitoring of guitar being recorded. I'm playing back drum beat while laying down a guitar track to it. The drum is up as loud as it can go and the guitar is much louder and I can't hear the drums hood enough. This is through headphones. So I want to lower volume on guitar monitoring so I can hear drums better.

That means you're using ASiO mode, which is the right thing to do, by the way.

Just turn down the Monitor knob on your 2i2.

There is only one monitor knob on Scarlett. It does both. Not what I want. I need individual which I was hoping Mixcraft had.

You can probably just open up a VST at the end of your effects chain with an output gain knob on it and turn it down while you’re recording and then just remove the VST when you’re done. All that FX stuff is post-fader anyway.

Or you could route the guitar to a send track to get the fader you’re looking for in the mixer.

I remembering experiencing the same problem with my 2i2 and Mixcraft. I can’t remember how I worked around it... I either muted and used a send/sub or panned the guitar and pulled the headphones halfway off my head on the guitar side. But it was a PITA, and MX needs to address the problem. I no longer have that problem with my Scarlett 2i4 because it has an Input/Playback blend knob. If remember exactly how I worked around the problem I’ll post it here, but I also remember the work around was a PITA too.

That doesn’t work because it turns down both the input and playback monitoring.

Use output buss tracks. Look in the user manual pg. 384.

I have the Scarlet 18i20 and the Focusrite control software allows you to setup a monitoring volume. Try that.

Thanks. I just looked at manual. I will look into more after supper this evening. It looks promising. It also said I might have to route to some kind of headphone amp device. I'll see later.
