Hi,

Let's summarize:

1. When a person wants to record a microphone or an instrument, it's almost always a mono signal. This means that it will show up in the left or right channel (on the left in most cases) if you arm the track for stereo. So, always arm an audio track on the side that has the audio:

Input 1 on your device is left and Input 2 is right.

2. If you've got some clips that are recorded with the audio in only one channel, do this:

By selecting Properties > Channels > Left in the image above, I ended up with a centered mono waveform:

Simply panning the clip won't help, as you found.

Hi Greg

I just recorded a vocal test track with the Stereo (1+2) setting resulting with the recording only being recorded on the left side… However during playback when I hard pan the track to the right it does move to the right side, and slightly moving the pan back towards center does indeed playback the track on both the left and right side of the track. But I didn't do a mixdown, so I'm assuming you mean it only won't help balance (center) the track for a mixdown?

Comments?

EDIT: I'm going to do a MP3 mixdown test.

FOLLOW UP EDIT: Okay I just did a MP3 mixdown test, and panning did indeed move the track to the center.

Hi,

Ooh, you're right. I must have been thinking of some ancient version of Mixcraft. I remember customers not being able to fix it with panning. At any rate, the answer to the original question is to select Properties > Channels > Left. That way, you get a nice centered mono waveform.
