CPU Usage goes up

Post by Drdish007 »

Hi,
I've noticed that the CPU & system power usage values go up the longer I have a project open. It starts out very low, goes up a little when playing the project. When it goes up the sound is good, but the playback line movement is not as smooth. When I load another project, without exiting Mix9, the values go back down. Then they start going up again.
No other programs are running.
When starting the values go between 0 to about 14. After it has been on for a while the values are around 35 to 40. That's when the playback line is not smooth.
I checked computer setting, and nothing is changed from when I used Mix8.

Hi,

The next time you notice that happening, quit Mixcraft and send us your mixcraft-log.txt file.

To find the mixcraft-log file, highlight the following line and press Ctrl+C to copy it:

Code: Select all

%appdata%\Acoustica\Mixcraft\
Press the Windows Key+R to pop up the Run box in Windows. Click in the Run box and press Ctrl+V to paste in the line from above. Finally, click OK to go to the location of the mixcraft-log.txt file. Submit an Acoustica Support Request and attach the log file along with a brief description of the problem.

Next time it happens check Task Manager and see if you’ve got a background program called Antimalware Services Executable, or something similar to that running. Scroll down further and look for a Black Shield Icon, it’ll say something related to Malware too. End the process of the one with the black shield.

Prior to a Windows update if I left my computer open with MixCraft and was just playing for a period of time (no button clicking, just playing a piano for example), after a period of time my CPU would spike majorly, then drop to the 30’s. Moving the mouse made it go back to normal. I think it’s some kind of idle process for Windows.

Doesn’t work that way anymore. Now there is this Antimalware program in Windows 10 that is a complete PIA. You can’t End Task on the program, but when it runs if the computer has been sitting, that program lower with the black shield is eating up the CPU. Fortunately you can end this process.

Thanks for the help.
How do I get the Task Manager? I don't know how to find some things in Windows10 yet.

Hi,

One way to find it: press the Windows key + X and choose it from the menu.

The old fashioned way is to press Ctrl+Alt+Del just once, and select it from the list.

Hi,

Another tip: you can click the header of the CPU column to sort by which process is using the most CPU.

You can try typing that in the run box, but don't know if it'll do anything.

Type it in the address bar of the file explorer instead. The %appdata% is a shortcut that windows automatically interprets as "C:/Users/{you}/appdata/roaming"

Hi,
Tried running Mix8 with same project I tried in Mix9. In Mix8 I don't have the CPU problem.
I did upgrade to Mix9 the same afternoon the server went down.
