How to connect a sequencer vst to an hardware synth ?

Post by Serpax »

Hi everybody,
I would like to know how to connect a sequencer vst to an audio track ?
By example, I take the sequencair which is a free sequencer from fullbucket (https://www.fullbucket.de/music/sequencair.html).
How to connect it to a hardware synth (I try to connect a behringer neutron to the sequencer) ?
In short, a little tutorial would be very nice.
Thank you very much in advance ?

Hey Serpax,

Check into this VST, it's called MRecorder (https://www.meldaproduction.com/MRecorder). It's super simple and it's the easiest way to do what I think you are trying to do.

It helps me do this...Run Riffer (https://audiomodern.com/shop/plugins/riffer/) in a Virtual Instrument track and record whatever it plays. It will save the file as a WAV. Then you have to drag it back into the DAW and line it up.

Virtual Instrument Track > Your Sequencer > Add MRecorder as VST Effect. Hit Play/Record> Start sequence > Hit Record on MRecorder.

FWIW, I always seem to have to insert at least a blank midi clip into the lane for the lane to play.

You could try adding the sequencer AND the Neutron like so (and also use that MRecorder method). When I place an empty MiDi box into the lane and hit Play Riffer plays my TD3. If you try to just record that sound it won't. Again, have to use the MRecorder VST.

I'm betting that Sequencair is recognized as a VST Instrument by Mixcraft, which means you can't put it on an audio track.

However, it sounds like you want to control a hardware synth with it, so you would want to put Sequencair on an Instrument track as the first "instrument", and then your Neutron as the second instrument - click on the <Select Synth> dropdown and scroll to the bottom to the External MIDI Devices list, and select your Neutron from there.

For me, I have the BlueARP arpeggiator plugin as my first "instrument", then the second instrument is my Behringer Model D:

If you want to record the audio from your Neutron, then all you have to do is plug the audio output of the Neutron into your audio interface like you would any other instrument.

Hi everybody,
I would like to thank you for your help, which has been very precious to me. Without you, I would never have made it.
Thanks to Robbie for the "mrecorder" method. Without your help, I would have wondered why there was no sound!
And thanks to Anorax for the "general" connection method.
I see you have a Model-D and apparently it works well.
Mixcraft plants with my neutron. It remains blocked and I am forced to reboot the computer.
I tried with the Novation mininova, no problem.
It's not a big deal. Not being a fan of the neutron sound, I'm going to sell it and wait a bit to buy something else.
Anyway, thank you both again for your help which will serve me well in the future.
