Changing presets/instruments on single instrument track

Post by SethSkoda »

I'm talking about doing this with a plugin. I've used automation to change all of the sliders on a plugin for a one-tine instrument change, but how would I do this more easily for more frequent changes on a plugin? There's got to be a way. I just got finished a project with too many instrument tracks. It stuttered a bit.
I'm using an FM synthesizer, by the way. It has no presets.

Hi,

You may be able to use Program Changes.

Thanks for the reply.

But with a plugin, how would this work? Would I have to set up presets and experiment with the values on the controller area?

Hi,

It would vary from plugin to plugin. Some plugins, like our Acoustica Instruments virtual instrument, follow the General MIDI standard: General MIDI 1.

I tried it with RYM2612, the plugin for which I wanted instrument changes. It did not work. I'm stuck with the two options of:
1) multiple instrument tracks with volume automation to make sure they don't overlap
2) tediously automating every necessary slider/knob to change instruments
I also want to note that an attempt to tie CC7 (volume) to a knob on the plugin did nothing (odd considering said knob has values 0-127, same as a MIDI controller). The plugin itself does not look at CC7 normally.
I wouldn't mind using MIDI controllers to automate the controls on a plugin, especially if I can save the settings (by that I mean which controller is tied to each knob can be reloaded instantly on a new project).
This is in Mixcraft 8 Pro Studio.
