Recording Midi from Instrument Track Using Loop Midi

Post by vizionheiry »

I add Loop Midi after the instrument/effect on the instrument track. Then I arm another instrument track and select Loop Midi as the device. I've been using ALL CHANNELS on each.

It's not working. I completely forgot how to do it.

Can you remind me how to record midi (or Audio) from an instrument track (with a plugin on it)?

Hi,

The way I did it with Guitar MIDI was that I set the standalone version of Guitar MIDI to output to LoopMIDI, then I armed a track in Mixcraft to record from LoopMIDI.

Then there's this: Alternative Method for Recording MIDI Data from an Arpeggiator.

Record the midi data (or audio) coming from the Hy Slicer plugin on the Drums virtual instrument to the Drums out virtual instrument track.

I set the loop midi on both tracks but it's not receiving anything.

Hi,

This will only work if the track sending MIDI out to the external device (LoopMIDI) is actually sending out MIDI. I put some MIDI on one track, set it to send out MIDI to the external device, and set another track to record from that external device. That worked, but the MIDI was coming from the track, not the plugin. What plugin is creating the MIDI in your case? Something slicer?

With LoopBe, I found that it was muted, and I had to run it and un-mute it.

Ah! This is the problem that I have then. I have several plug-ins like Hy Slicer where I drag an audio clip into the plugin to manipulate in some way.

Hy Slicer is a drum sampler that slices the wave forms and sequences them in patterns. Before you say use Omni Sampler Out, what OSO doesn't do is allow me to adjust the wave form while inside of the plugin. I have to slice first in the sound tab then go from there.

I'll try to the alternative method with Midi Monitor.

Do you think midi and audio routing from plugins will be addressed in an upcoming update?

Hi,

It's filed as a feature request, but I don't know when it will show up.

Are you sure the plugin is outputting MIDI?

Well data is showing up in the Total Data column of Loop Midi but not the Throughout/sec even when I change plugins so it may be Loop Midi itself.

Hi,

Not all virtual instruments output MIDI.

You could try LoopBe, but I don't think there's anything wrong with LoopMIDI.

Try what I did: just put some MIDI notes on a track and set it to output to LoopMIDI, without any virtual instrument on that track, then arm another track to record from LoopMIDI and see what happens.

That way, at least you'd know if LoopMIDI is doing its job.

I tried Midi Monitor and then the same issue occurred. Nothing.

Greg I thought about what you said. Is the plugin outputting midi? No. The plugin is actually outputing AUDIO not MIDI. That's why Loop MIDI wasn't able to receive it.

My work-around was to enable Stereo Mix and record on an Audio Track.

Still please suggest audio and midi routing from plugins on virtual instruments as a high priority for our next update. I even want that before I want a chord tool!

Thanks for your help!

And Loop Midi is working fine when I record midi from one track to the other. Thanks for sorting me out!

This is what's been getting me confused! It's actually AUDIO that's coming out from some of my plugins on Virtual Instrument tracks, not MIDI.

Is there any other way to record Audio from a Virtual Instrument track besides the method I used?

Hi,

What happens if you put some MIDI on that Hy Slicer track, then right-click to the left of it and select "Mix To New Audio Track?"

It worked!!! It recorded the audio on the track.

Hi,

Yes, that's how you can "record" the audio from a virtual instrument.
