Replace Mode Creating Lanes In Loop

The Replace recording mode will make new lanes no matter what when Loop is enabled. Is this by design?
Not sure if I am missing something? Would love to just able to loop and keep playing replacing the same part till I get it right...'cause I suck.
W/out having to delete every other lane every time.
