Bass Audio to MIDI

Post by TrevsAudio »

Can someone else try this please?
Everytime I convert a manually played bass line to MIDI, the result is an octave lower than the original.

My home power went out earlier this evening, the electrician hopefully will be here sometime tomorrow and fix it.
I’m using my iPhone right now, so I can’t test it for you. Out of curiosity, why are you converting audio bass tracks to midi tracks?

You can always transpose the bass midi to an octave above.

Yep, always do - but is this a fault?

Hi,

Mixcraft relies upon Melodyne to convert audio to MIDI. If you view the bass line in Melodyne, is it an octave lower?

And also, if you click on the Algorithm menu, which mode is selected? It should probably be set to Melodic.

OK - It's correct pitch in Melodyne and it is set to Melodic but still produces MIDI notes that are an octave lower.
Problem is when used with MODO bass, it can't read notes that low - I have to select all and shift move them all an octave up.

Hi,

Select the audio clip, then on the Sound tab, select Melodyne. Along the left side of the top of Melodyne, there's a menu item called Algorithm. Click on that and see if it's set to Melodic.

Then try converting to MIDI again after doing that.

Hi,

Melodyne Essentials 5 is coming along soon. We'll see what happens with that.

It will be a free update for Melodyne 4 owners.

Hi,

Not sure what the upgrade policy is for you - you could check with Celemony.

I seem to have lost a post in here somewhere...
I did a bit more experimenting - the audio bass was in the key of D with D2 as the root.
Converting the audio to MIDI also placed the MIDI at D2 and this played correctly with the default acoustic piano. But if I change instrument (I used MC's 80's fretless bass); although the MIDI remains at D2, the bass plays an octave lower

Watch when you select the instrument. Sometimes it sets the pitch range to -12 for some reason in the instrument detail tab. See editing virtual instrument panel. :D
