I am not sure I understand the question Trevor?

I always assumed it was a somewhat metaphorical jazz number about "getting together" via a ride on the "A-train"
Which I assume would be a mass transportation/subway line in the big city.

But what do I know. I'm a country boy who avoids all things "big city"
Stay in tune, Mark

Seems to be a train in New York City (The A Train). I've been on a train in NYC several decades ago, but probably not the "A" Train.

The title refers to the then-new A subway service that runs through New York City, going at that time from eastern Brooklyn, on the Fulton Street Line opened in 1936, up into Harlem and northern Manhattan, using the Eighth Avenue Line in Manhattan opened in 1932. I have ridden on it. :D
Great jazz standard! :D
