Need Help With Drum Samples/Loops

Post by botface »

I've recently started using MIDI instruments. It's lots of fun and so powerful. Anyway, I'm having problems with drums. I've never played drums (or percussion) and find that I can't think like a drummer so it's really hard to build musically sympathetic drum track for whatever I'm working on. The obvious thing to do is to use lops or "grooves" - I have MT Power Drums and SSD5: both freebies but I don't want to spend money until I have more knowledge/practise - but all the provided grooves are 4/4 (OK SSD5 does have some 6/8 that might be useful). Can anybody point me to some good, basic, free 3/4 grooves? Looking further ahead do commercial (IE paid for) packages have a decent range of time signatures?

These are a pretty good place to start. Pro level, human played drum midi examples.
And I think theres a lot to be learned by studying the midi programming closely.
Stay in tune, Mark

One of the best things I did was buy EZDrummer2. I'm a hack guitarist who knows nothing about drumming, so it was a lifesaver. It has a song creator mode and tons of different kits to suit you needs. It's not free but invaluable to me.

Grooveemonkee are good, but for something more "off beat" not just 4/4 have a look at https://www.oddgrooves.com . If you don't mind them emailing you adverts they send free samples of their grooves every so often.

Hi,

A lot can be done with Omni Sampler and the samples that come in Mixcraft's library as well. Change the Library setting to samples and load them up in Omni Sampler.
