No Playback device in ASIO

Post by kenrob2037 »

Hi All,

I just set up a new Windows 10 PC. I have everything working fine in my old Win 10 PC, but I cannot get a playback device set up in Mixcraft when I choose ASIO with ASIO4all as the ASIO device.

I have tried Wave and WaveRT, all I get is massive latency with Wave RT and the audio quality on Wave is much louder and distorted, and with unacceptable latency, even if I adjust things.

I have my Roland FA-08 keyboard plugged in via USB3.

My version of Windows 10 is 1909. In its sound settings I am using the Realtek audio as the output, I do not have an interface. Please see attached pic.

Any thought on how to resolve this?

Cheers,
Rob

Doesn't your keyboard have a built in audio interface?

No my Keyboard does not have an inbuilt interface.

I just upgraded to a new Win 10 PC and even though I have the same settings on the old one, ASIO does no offer an audio output.

Ah ok. I read somewhere that those keyboards have them built in to use with DAWs. Sorry if this seems obvious but did you reinstall/update your keyboard drivers?

The drivers automatically install when I plug it in.

It's not my keyboard that's the issues, its the settings between Mixcraft and my PC.

Make sure ASIO4ALL devices are setup. If there's not a device configured in the ASIO4ALL setup, it may not be available in your applications (DAW).

Close Mixcraft. From your windows start button, look for the ASIO4ALL folder and find the ASIO4ALL Offline settings. Run that and set up your devices. Once your devices are setup, run mixcraft and they should be available in the list when you choose the ASIO4ALL driver.

I have 4 devices in the ASIO device list, my monitors and two Bluetooth headphones and the Realtek Audio. In the Realtek, out and in are both switched on. So are my monitors.

I cannot find any offline settings anywhere in the ASIO folder.

When I go back into Mixcraft, you will see in the attached screenshot that there are no in out output devices available.

Sure. Have to set up devices in windows first, and in ASIO4ALL. This is Windows 7 but conceptually should work on Windows 10:

In Windows, make sure your your realtek are your defaults sound/speaker device:

In Windows make sure your realtek or microphone is your default recording device:

Hi,

There is no off-line settings in my ASIO folder, here is a screen shot of the folder.

My Realtek in and out and mic are the defaults. Is this right?

Playback and Recoding setting in my Win 10 has Realtek at the default device for both.

Yet, still there is no playback device available in MIxcraft when I chose ASIO with ASIO 4 all as the device?

Any further thoughts?

I've discovered that ASIO4ALL was somehow corrupt.

When I deleted it, Mixcraft is now back to working fine just on WAVE, with no perceptible latency.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Hi,

ASIO4All is just s generic driver, and it might not work well with all devices. It's best to use the driver provided by the hardware manufacturer, and if that's not available, then WaveRT, possibly with Exclusive Mode enabled, is the next best alternative.

Thanks Greg.

Oddly enough, ASIO$ALL worked fine on my old PC. But this is a different version of Windows, so it is probably all Micosoft's fault.

Well...
ASIO4all has been historically "iffy" but from what I understand it has gotten "better"

But any software that popped a window like that "Interface: Status beyond logic" example would be promptly uninstalled and considered hacked, corrupt or pure crap here.

You need a proper interface.
Just sayin'
Stay in tune, Mark

I've been looking at an interface, but I'm a classical music composer and 95% of my work is playing in melody lines into Mixcraft.

The rest I build in Sibelius and open that midi or audio files sometimes in MIxcraft. I only add the melody lines of instrument to make it sound more realistic.

It is now working on WAVE like it used to on ASIO on my old computer.

Thanks again for all your help.
