Audio interface - Mixcraft 9

Hello,
I'm on the look out to buy an audio interface but I'm not really sure how they work. I've done lots of research and I'm still confused.

1. Does the audio interface handle latency issues with regard to recording and listening at the same time?

2. If I connect a mic and a guitar to the interface - how does this show up in mixcraft, is it separated into 2 tracks and if not is it possible to separate it into 2 tracks?

Think of it as an external sound card that you can plug stuff into and it'll put it into digital so you can use it in MC. Latency is really dependent upon the power of the pc that's driving the interface, so if you have a weak computer you'll be limited if your system is older or can't handle the workload, interface or not. When you connect something to MC it will put it into it's own track or you could have both outputs on the same track.

As an example, a Focusrite 2i2 has a direct monitor switch which allows you to monitor from the headphone jack without latency. You are then able to select the input for each track...
