Live Performance

Question:
Can I have a bunch of midi (or wav) tracks, but also have my guitar plugged in live, and have Mixcraft change the guitar effects and settings (VSTi) on the fly during the performance?

You know, like turn on flanger, then turn on distortion during the lead parts, and then turn it off for a more melo sound during the verses.

I am just looking to use Mixcraft as a way for me to play along with midi songs, like Karaoke, but also have it automate my guitar effects in real time. Looking for ways to be a one man show, and while leaving all my guitar rig at home. :P

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

If I understand your question the answer is yes. If you are triggering on or off different effects you can use track automation for that. If there is an on/off or a bypass in the VST itself, you can actually select thatin one of the automation lanes. It's not limited to on or off, you can control any of the parameters that are available: Overdrive, tone, gain, etc. Each parameter can be controlled in it's own automation lane for each effect if you wanted to get that deep.

If you did just want it to go on and off at certain times in the track, If it doesn't have that as a control in the VST, I'm not really sure how you would use automation to turn it off or on or bypass or engage it.

Yep, you can use automation, and you can also use the effect MIDI module to control parameters in real time from a physical controller.
