Volume automation weirdness

Post by mellotron »

I am having a weird, recurring thing that happens to volume automation in my projects. I don't know what I might be doing to cause it to happen, so I haven't learned what to stop doing! This most recent time happened right after I had completed a Save As... on a new project.

Here is what the volume controls should look like:

Here is what it looks like after "it" happens:

When I hover the mouse over the lower-left white dot, rather than displaying the "-Inf dB" moniker, I see "Resize and Loop." I have to do some weird clicking before the volume automation comes back. Sometimes a single-click on the "Resize and Loop" dot re-engages volume; sometimes it does not. Sometimes I have to stretch the waveform just a smidgen (English for "tiny bit") to the left in order to get the cursor to change to the + sign. Very strange indeed...

Further, I tested by only fixing the volume swells on the first two audio segments, circled below in red. I then soloed only these three tracks. On playback, only the two circled segments are heard. The next few do not fade in (as you might expect by the visual ramp) but are completely silent.

Any ideas here? I am truly baffled.

Hi,

The Resize and Loop tooltip appears when you over over the lower right corner of the clip to show that you can drag it out to loop the clip. If you zoom in a bit, you might have better access to the pivot point.

Not sure how your automation would get messed up like that. Are you using Mixcraft 9.0 build 469?

Hi Greg,

Yes, I am running Mixcraft 9 Pro Studio, build 469, 64-bit on Windows 10.

In response to your help on the Resize and Loop tooltip, I never go the the lower-right corner of a clip. I always start by trying to fix the volume automation in the lower-left, as that is where my "volume" appears to have dropped to zero. I don't know if this changes your suggestion or not, but I just wanted to clarify.

Hi,

But you get what I'm saying right? If you're not exactly on the pivot point, you might get the other tooltip about resizing the loop.

Yes, Greg, I understand what you mean.

What would you like for me to do to troubleshoot?

Next time it happens, is there a log file I should send you?

I am really hoping to eliminating this oddity.

It's a bug. It's always been there; it's happened to me plenty of times.

Hi,

How can I duplicate it?

It doesn't happen often enough for me to take note. I've always just regarded it as 'one of those things'.
