When I play back a midi recorded midi track using a VSTi instrument the mixer activity strip shows the playback.
When using an "External Midi Device" as the playback instrument no activity shows on the mixer strip. Greg ?

Hi,
When you send MIDI to an external instrument, the external MIDI device is making the audio, and Mixcraft has no way of displaying levels for that audio - unless you're sending that audio back into Mixcraft.

Hi thanks for clarifying that Greg in the way that Mixcraft works with midi.
I use MIDI recording a lot with external hardware instruments and would find it very useful to have the MIDI output activity showing on the track.
Another popular DAW does have that function although I really like the work flow of Mixcraft.
Maybe one for the future to add to Mixcraft.

Hi,
Not sure how that other popular DAW would do that, unless you were routing the audio output from the external MIDI device back into the DAW.
MIDI doesn't contain any audio - there's no way for a DAW to show audio levels when there's no audio.

Actually, if you want to see whether MIDI is going out to the external MIDI device, there is the MIDI Out indicator along the bottom of Mixcraft's screen.
