Total Timing Confusion

Post by TrevsAudio »

C’mon my mussos buddies – help me understand the timing of this intro and first verse... There’s even a vocal timing count in.

Do us older guys totally rule or what!!

Or could be triplets in 4/4. If that's the case my metronome puts it around 102-104 bpm. (These are live acoustic players so are not playing to a click).

I'd say 6/8 at about 112 bpm me just counting it out. However, I don't understand how mixcraft is counting - probably by single 8th notes instead of two groups of dotted quarters; so MC is forcing the BPM to be higher with that meter. I'd put MC at about 160 with a 6/8 time sig in this case. The tripelet quarter notes on the hihat intro and the 2 bar phrasing sorta seal the deal for me that it's 6/8. But if you want the phrasing more "musically correct" with the tripelet feel in mixcrafts counting world, you'd have to set mixcraft to 4/4 with the lower bpm and use tripelet 8ths and quarter notes.
