Hi, I would like to try and record a friend's Roland TD3 electronic drum kit with my Mixcraft 9, it's a slightly old model from 2006 but should have a midi out, would it be a fairly straightforward process? Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to try this now as we live in different countries but I would like to get my head around this before I see him for recording. I have experience recording midi keys but have never tried with a drum kit.
I am expecting to get separate tracks for the various elements of the kit, in midi, is this the case?
Many thanks!

Hi,
If it doesn't have a USB out option, you'll need a MIDI to USB adapter, or a USB audio interface with a MIDI connector. If you are thinking of buying a MIDI to USB adapter cable, beware of the ultra cheap-o ones, because they sometimes don't work correctly.
Should work.
