Hi,
So here is what I'm trying to do. On a specific MIDI track (piano), I'd like to be able to increase the velocities of all notes of a portion of the track. I see I could "draw" with the pencil but then all the notes of a chord get the same velocity, or it gets too different from the original.
Is there a way to dial in a certain amount of increase for the velocities which would then be added to every note by an equal amount, therefore not making everything flatly the same? So a velocity of 70 +5 would be 75 and a velocity of 72 +5 would be 77, etc. This would result in much more consistent velocity changes, even for a whole track, rather than turning every note (and chord) to a solid 77, making it sound like I'm hammering the keyboard.
How would I do this?
Thanks!
Andre
Manually enter velocities values for whole track?

Re: Manually enter velocities values for whole track?
Hi Andre
Yes! Just hit CTRL A to select all notes then use the grab handle to raise or lower them all at the same rate.

Ah! Thanks!
So is this only in v9? I'm on v8 and don't see that handle.

The handles are apparently only in MX9, but there is a way in 8
Also CTRL A to select all, then go to Midi Editing>Velocities where you can adjust all notes by units or percentage.

Re: Manually enter velocities values for whole track?
Thanks! Great tip!
Maybe I'll have to start using MX9 from now one...
Cheers,
Andre

Happy to help - If you don't have 9 there are very reasonable upgrade packages

Yes, I bought MX9 Pro last year in January. But I don't like changing software in the middle of a project. I found MX9's GUI to be too dark for my taste also. But I'll see maybe I can bring the MX8 GUI to it.
Cheers,
Andre

You can even do that - Prefs>Display>Visual Theme

Re: Manually enter velocities values for whole track?
I tried it, but I'm partial to the "machine-like" GUI and find it much softer on the eyes than the alarm-clock look of MX9. No display change can bring this back at this point. Disappointing. New versions don't always need to redo everything.
Visual cues are important for people who are visual, like me for instance. I work much faster where the GUI provides a 3D "hardware" look. I'm of that older generation maybe, I don't know.
Thanks!
