Monitoring the sound, with little difference

Hello there !

Is it me, or the monitor output to my headphones is not really sending the VSt sound on the fly, as it is recorded. I have been using the Shred Vst but does seem that the monitor sound is not as good as what is recorded on a track and then played back ? The guitar sounds hollow on monitor.

Is there something I am missing here ? Using several Vst for electric guitar, the monitor sound does not reflect the recorded track as well as it should ? My headphones are good heaphones (150$ monitoring types). Using MXC 5.2 on a laptop with the USB Presonius sound card.
