Manual volume control vanished from wizard

When I first used SIA there was a manual volume control in the level wizard. This has now vanished and i can find no way to get it back. Any advice?

This happens when you use a USB device as your recording device. Most USB devices do not supply a volume control of any kind to windows, which means windows has no volume control to supply to software such as spin it again.

I have struggled with this for a couple of weeks now and nothing I do will return the volume control. My computer has never seen a USB sound card not even once, it has only had the on board ac97 thing and the M-Audio A2496. I've tried selecting every option for the input but still no volume control, gone and gone for good.
There must be a way to force it back shirley!

What are you recording? A turn table? A cassette deck? How is it connected to the computer? Is this a desktop or laptop?
