Books on tape sounds like a tin can

Post by idahocharlie »

Hello.
I am copying a book on tape with several different readers. The tape is perfect but the recording is terrible. It sounds like they are reading in a tin can. I have tried the wizard at the beginning to adjust the tape. Any suggestions? Thanks for you help.

Does it sound like that in the edit/preview screen or just after the program burns a cd or makes audio files at the end?

It sounds fine in the preview. The problem lies in the playback.

That suggests it recorded ok, so when you render to wave, mp3, etc. Make sure the quality settings are high enough for good playback. What file type are you rendering to?

not sure what you are referring to...
I am putting the recordings (mp3) onto a jump drive (for long term storage) and will be transferring them to a cd.

After clicking "create audio files" you then choose mp3, click the details button and make sure the setting is not lower than shown here.

You can also try choosing wave file rather than mp3, see if that helps.

Here's the sequence of events leading to the audio settings.
1 - record
2 - edit/preview screen
3 - song info entry
4 - create cd and or create audio files

In step 4, choose to create audio files, you then get this screen.
Click the details button to access audio file quality settings.

My pleasure,
Keep in mind that with any compressed audio file type like mp3, wma, ogg, etc. When it gets compressed, data is being removed from the file. So if you compress too much, it starts to sound bad.
