New track 'Longing'

Post by davefk »

Hi All

Its been awhile since i've been here or even written anything new. Anyways, here's my latest creation it's a laid back mood track with no real melody.....

I would love your constructive feedback on the track, and is the sax too loud?

Thanks guys.

Hi Dave,

I really enjoyed this track-- smooth and calming. Yeah, maybe a little strong on the sax? The rest sounds good to me, I like the synth work. Thanks, Rick. 8)

Thanks for your feedback Rick, I am glad you enjoyed it. Yep, I think I will remaster the track with that sax lower.

That is really nice! You've definitely got a talent there, I liked the voice sound coming in.

Only one thing stood out for me regarding my personal taste. There was some form of distortion or lo fi effect on the bass/bass drum. Personally, I didn't like that, it got in the way of me enjoying the music.

That sounds great! It reminds me of Enigma a little.

I agree with the other poster about the sax... I'd reduce its volume just a little, and maybe EQ it to shift it a little from "bright" toward "warm" if that makes any sense.

@elaw Wow! I thought I was the only person in the world that knew Enigma!
I like the smooth transitions of the flute--the background sounded like a bird which made for a nice fill in--voices and overall track is really nice.

If you are a sax aficionado then you might choose to let it be. Otherwise... just a hair. Good listening!

It pops out ever so slightly perhaps. 1 or 2 dB max would probably do it for me.
But its a matter of taste and when the suggestion is one instrument by amounts that small, your mix is pretty darn good!
I liked it, and yeah, I was thinking Enigma(ish) too.

Yes you hit the nail on the head there... I liked the drum loop, but I think the bass kick was distorted a little. I was hoping it would not show too much in the mix, but you have definitely got good ears... Thanks so much for listening.

Yes, it does make sense. I don't know why I let it go out with that sax so loud, but after listening a few times it sort of becomes not as loud as I first thought, but I agree, it could be warmer. Will re-mix it. Thanks for the suggestion and for taking time out to listen and give me feedback. Much appreciated.
