PERFORMANCE PROBLEM: Improve performance of insert time / remove time

Post by sixstorm1 »

Inserting or removing time at the beginning of a many-hours mix is a painful process (Mixcaft 8.1 Build 418). Mixcraft freezes for at least 30 seconds. I don't know what calulations Mixcraft is doing but the algorithm is highly inefficient and should be improved. This should be near instant. When I create mixes of songs and want to add or remove clips at the beggining of the mix I have to wait a very long time after Mixcraft everytime. Please improve the algorithm

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1. Create a project with default settings
2. Insert a hundred clips to make the mix a few hours long.
3. Insert a tempo marker between each clip.
4. Insert time at the beginning of the project.
5. Mixcraft freezes for 30 seconds.

Hi,

Get it to happen one more time, then quit Mixcraft and send us your mixcraft-log.txt file.

To find the mixcraft-log file, highlight the following line and press Ctrl+C to copy it:

Code: Select all

%appdata%\Acoustica\Mixcraft\
Press the Windows Key+R to pop up the Run box in Windows. Click in the Run box and press Ctrl+V to paste in the line from above. Finally, click OK to go to the location of the mixcraft-log.txt file. Submit an Acoustica Support Request and attach the log file along with a brief description of the problem.

Maybe having a mix that is many hours long is the secret sauce?

Hi,

I tried it with a 4 hour long project and it was pretty much instant. Maybe it has more to do with the number of clips? I'll look at the log file.

No it has to do with the number of tempo markers. I use Mixcraft to make non-live DJ mixes, so tempo changes between each song. As you add tempo markers, you can see more and more delays when applying this function.

Also, have you taken a look at the 3 bugs I documented below?

Hi,

How many tempo markers do you have in the project?

Yes, I saw your other posts.

Hi,

Okay, so the problem is that if you have 200 track markers with tempo changes, it takes a really long time to insert or remove time. Thanks for reporting this! We'll see what happens in Mixcraft 9, because there will doubtless be some optimizations.

Hi,

This is fixed in Mixcraft 9. It was taking a long time to update the track marker list on the right with that many markers.

Will old MX8 bugs that get fixed in MX9 also eventually be fixed with MX8 updates, or will old MX8 bugs that get fixed in MX9 never be fixed with updates in MX8?

Hi,

Yes, we'll try to squash them. It's hard to get them all. Some bugs are more important than others, and those tend to get the attention, but you guys are pretty good about reminding us if we miss something. Some might not get fixed because they don't affect many people or only arise in unusual circumstances. Some won't get fixed because nobody notices them.
