Drum Map for Volca

Post by r0bbie »

Hello all! Happy New Year!

I see in the PDF how to make a new drum map from a VSTi. Is there a way to do the same with something like a Volca Beats? I can choose Standard drum set then drag around the parts I want to use and it works great but as soon as I close the program what I did resets. Def not worth the trouble in setting up every time.

If I add a custom drum set to the drum-maps7 folder it won't work as intended. Probably because I have to list it in Default-Drum-Mapping I suppose? Not sure. But I can't because there is no GUID since it's just midi sent via a a CubitGo Midi Interface.

Not sure if any of this makes sense.

TLDR: I want to add my Volca Beats to the drum map list. Can I do this?

Hi,

So, you want to make a drum map for an external MIDI device, is that correct? I suppose you could just manually select the custom drum map for those external MIDI tracks.

Work around central. Things I did to get this to work (in case it helps anyone else):

1. Make a backup copy of the Standard drum map found in drum-maps7.
2. Delete all the entries except for these:

36 Kick Drum 1
38 Snare Drum 1
43 Low Tom
50 High Tom 1
42 Closed Hi-Hat
46 Open Hi-Hat
39 Hand Clap
75 Claves
67 High Agogo
49 Crash Cymbal

3. Save the file.
4. Add a virtual instrument, change it to your Midi interface.
5. Choose Standard in the drum maps. (just a few names/parts will be off and scrambled up, no idea why) Put the drums where you want them.
6. Most important part: Fill in a pattern for each row (see the screenshot). If you don't you'll have to redo your organization of the parts. It won't save.

SO yeah, if you have a file with this track saved (template won't work) you can just choose your midi interface the volca is on, choose Standard kit and make some beats!

Otherwise you have to build a kit every time and it takes forever.

And of course you need an audio track activated so you can hear your Volca :)

Cheers.
