Newbie Workflow Question

Post by GTR_RO »

Brand new to this...

I'm writing a musical background for a song featuring a recorded guitar track. In order to get this whole thing organized, I am thinking I'd write in the guitar part...and then is there a way to mute it? I need to work with it as I write. Is this a common practice when arranging/composing music? Thanks

Do whatever works best for you... And you can mute any track.

Actually I was asking because I've never done any sort of work before and I was hoping more experienced users could make suggestions to help me learn the ropes faster.

Thanks.

As a bassist I usually start with a bass groove, then add drums and build from there. However, sometimes I start with a cool guitar or keyboard riff, others may start with vocals... Just get creative, have fun, and go for it.

i personally start with a beat, or a drum loop, then add chords.i'm a guitarist so having a beat first helps me inspiration wise.

Me too, something about when the foot starts tapping can get it all going.

I'm totally new to this. As a guitarist with classical training, I go for the bass line after documenting the melody. However my goal is to create a score to play over live. It seems like a plan to me to get a skeleton of the score and then start tweaking the parts. I was hoping to find some shortcuts or different approaches as I'm open to new.

This guy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMHG0r ... hiP63FJakw is way too silly for me but he has such good information about composing and other issues. He is a professional film/tv/game score composer.
