Mixcraft 9 crashes when importing .aiff

Post by chikachuru » Tue Jun 30, 2020 4:39 pm

Hey guys,

Sound engineer has sent over stems as .aiffs, which I swear mixcraft is meant to be able to load, but every time I try to import them via add sound file mixcraft encounters a 'fatal' error and crashes, and when I try to drag and drop it doesn't recognise them? My computer is able to open them via quicktime if that's of any help.

Any advice very very welcome - just wanna get this EP mixed :(

Hi,

Get the problem to happen again, then quit Mixcraft and send us your mixcraft-log.txt file.

To find the mixcraft-log file, highlight the following line and press Ctrl+C to copy it:

Code: Select all

%appdata%\Acoustica\Mixcraft\
Press the Windows Key+R to pop up the Run box in Windows. Click in the Run box and press Ctrl+V to paste in the line from above. Finally, click OK to go to the location of the mixcraft-log.txt file. Submit an Acoustica Support Request and attach the log file along with a brief description of the problem.

Perhaps get the engineer to re-send the files in wav format, or use a compatible program to convert the aiff files to wav.

Well, full disclosure....
In approaching some ten years of working in digital audio I have not one single time run into the need to work with or convert aiff format files. The standard with everyone I have collaborated with or done work for has been wav. Predominantly 24 bit wav.

But as I recall, you can open aiff files in Audacity (free) and export as wav. Though back (a long time ago) when I explored Audacity, I think it was limited to 16 bit. Which may or may not be acceptable to some users.

And a quick Goggle reveals a bunch of free converters, if needed.

aiff is an Apple thing as I understand it. Yet even the Apple based DAW users I interact with all share and archive using wav files. And as far as I know every Mac based DAW is capable of exporting in wav format.

So the problem seems to lie in the source. But that may just be my perspective on the issue.
