Can someone help me with the following:
I need to send a compressor to music but only while the voiceover is occurring. I need the music to drop in volume/dynamics while the voiceover is being heard. I believe I can do that with a send but it's honestly something that still confuses me.
Does anyone know the steps to do that?

You will have to use a compressor that has side chain capability.
Put that compressor on the track or submix that you want to “duck” while voice over is occurring. In the compressor select the track or submix that is the voice over as the side chain or input. Adjust compressor accordingly.
Try searching YouTube videos with voice over compression technique.

Cool thanks. I have MX9 pro, do you know if any of the compressors it comes with have sidechain?

I found a video for MX specifically. Posting for posterity.

Thank you, indeed very helpful VIDEO! I never understood these things before (side chain, pre-fader, etc) and didn't know what a submix was useful for. This video gave me at least a good staring point working knowledge.
Now to test it in real life.
