Feature Request - Midi and audio track delay

Post by notnotant »

Ello! :D

So a feature I use an awful lot in Cubase is Track Delay. Specifically, I use it on midi tracks the most, but this feature also exists on audio tracks in Cubase. It allows you to add an amount of delay in milliseconds to be applied to the track (-800 ms to +800ms). The reason this is so helpful, is because I use a number of VST libraries (mostly string libraries in my case) which purposefully have documented timed offsets for things like legato.

As an example, Cinematic Studio Strings has a mode called "Advanced Legato". This mode allows for more ranges of legato (slow, medium and fast) but also have different ranges of delays required to keep the instrument in sync with the midi. For example, for slow legato, the amount of delay from when the midi note is triggered to when it reaches the next note is around 1/3 of a second or 333ms.

Here is a timestamped link to a better explanation of how this is done from the CSS team.

The only way I know of doing this in Mixcraft, would be to try and offset the midi notes. That is what I had previously done before moving over to Cubase again. However, it can get really frustrating to do so on a project and has left me feeling like I couldn't get my idea out, because I was fighting to get things sounding natural and on time.

Hi

Not sure if it's the same thing, but select a clip and then open the sound tab. At the bottom left on the Time tab you can select an offset for either MIDI or audio.

Or select the clip, then use the left or right arrow keys along with holding down Ctrl or Shift+Ctrl to move the clips in tiny increments.
