Where to add LUFS measurement vst? SOLVED

Post by ppayne »

I want to export with the correct LUFS values for different platforms like soundcloud or YouTube. It is noticeable that I cannot get behind the master volume with my level meter vst. That means I can't measure what volume really goes into the mixdown because the master volume have an effect on export to wave. Is there a simple solution to this?

Currently I have found a workaround, but it is more complex to setup. I routed everything through a send (complicated because ctrl click does not set the send knob to 100 percent) , where I can control the overall volume, set all instruments to an output track with volume minus inf, so that I get only the send volumes on master, then set the master volume to 0. In this case I can measure on the master track and change volume on the send track. A bit complicated for that I think, because I have to setup this for each mixcraft project :(

Is it possible or planed to give us a chance to add a vst that get the real mixdown volume to calculate the correct LUFS?

Best regards
Patrick

I use the free YouLean loudness meter as the last plugin on my master bus, aiming for -14 Dbfs integrated in the loudest part of the song.

Then I mix down to WAV and run the song through this website (also for free :D )

https://www.loudnesspenalty.com/

It shows how much each platform will adjust their loudness volumes by.

Hi Trevor,

But this only works if your master volume change is 0. Where do you increase or decrease the volume if it doesn't match to - 14 lufs as example?

Hi Patrick - You need to keep an eye on levels in the mixing stage (gain staging).

Have a look at this video by Cameron -

And there's a more detailed video here too.

Thanks Trevor, I have also seen the gain stage video on each track some times ago. In my case all gains in balance for the whole mix but only the total mix volume must be decreases to match to the -13 lufs. I will check the video again but I'm not sure if this gives me the answer I'm searching for.

Perfekt Trevor,

this video did remember me to show the gain knob in mixer panel for the master track. That ist exactly what I have searching for.

Thanks for this advice!
