Pulse effect for entire mix

Post by bsheen74 »

Good day folks!
Anyone know how to or what effect you would use to create a pulse sound for an entire mix? I'm trying to add about a 1/4 of a measure 32nd note pulse to the entire track.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

What sort of pulse effect? A synth pulse sound? Or do you want to modulate another sound?

Not looking for a "sound". More of a modulation I guess.

I assume the reference is "pumping"

IE: A heavy compressor side chain triggered by a muted kick drum track.

Hi,

And I never see anybody talking about it, but Mixcraft 9 added an LFO controller feature that can be used to modulate any plugin parameter.

You can do something as simple as modulating the volume of an EQ (shown below).

You can also directly modulate instruments parameters.

Yeah, I was just referring to an "old school" example of how (What I perceive as the intention) might be done.

There are many ways to get similar results, and perhaps the LFO is a viable option.
Honestly, I have never messed with that because either it doesn't pertain or isn't applicable to anything I do, or I simply dont have the understanding or creative vision to incorporate it.

Being an old fart, with old fart tastes and interests and all...
(Humor me, I am actually always quite interested in learning how others do things)
Just don't ask me to dance. I'll use my knee as an excuse.

As always, there's more than one way to approach the problem.

I am listening to Zedd trying to find an exampe. I am thinking the song Spectrum has what I'm looking for. Maybe its called a "breakdown". Its about 3:00 in.

Example not found in that song list.

And yes, a "breakdown" would be a completely different thing than "Pulse effect for entire mix"

A good example would help us help you.

Technically its at 6:15 but I think you need to rewind to 6:10 - 6:12 to get the full context. And it happens again shortly after that.

That would be called a "stutter effect"
Some research of that term should reveal a few ways to do it.

One would be level automation cuts in 16th or 32nd notes I guess.

Note that some guitarists mod their instrument with a momentary "kill" button and use it for similar effect as well.

But that example sounds more like a stutter effect to my ear.

Perfect Mark!! Thank you. This VST called Slicer Box does exactly that!
