Downloaded Freesounds library

Post by lox »

I've had Mixcraft on a handful of machines and each time I move it I lose all of the samples I've downloaded from Freesound, it takes weeks to locate and download them again each time

Just moved it again and thought I had solved the issue by going into my Program Files>Acoustica MC9>Log Files>Library
I was encouraged to see the folder full of files, so I grabbed it and put in the same place on my new machine, unfortunately it wasn't my favorites, it seems more like a random selection of Freesound files, maybe everything I've ever auditioned, definitely not files I favorited

If I stay in the same machine my library works well, but I don't know how to keep them in a place that I can depend on when I move to a new machine, as it is I upgraded my machine and my MC version to PS, but once again I don't have my favorites library intact, any help will be appreciated

Hi,

When you want to move a project with Freesound sounds, click on the File menu and select "Copy Project Files to..." This option finds all the files used in the project and allows you to put them into a zip file or folder that you can transfer to another computer or whatever.

I appreciate the input Greg, I employ what you describe routinely but it's not what I'm looking for here.
I want to port my raw files, not the cooked ones.

Hi,

That's what "Copy Project Files..." does, it copies the file files that you used in a project to a new location. It's a good way to get organized if your projects load audio files that are all over the place on your computer.

I will, from time to time spend a few hours browsing Freesound samples, footsteps, bird songs, etc
I favorite as I go, amassing a sizable collection of curated samples, when I want something I go to my favorites and find it, use it, copy the project file and I'm good

But when I change machines (a few times over the past 3 years or so) I lose my library of samples that haven't yet been used

I can't locate where they are saved

Hi,

That info is stored in a file called FreeSoundFaves.txt, which is located here:

%appdata%\Acoustica\Mixcraft\favorites\Library

So, just copy that file to a new computer into the same folder.

If you look in the file, it's just a number ID for the sound, it doesn't list the sound's name.

Again, I appreciate the help Greg, thank you

In my old machine, which had hundreds of favorited items, that folder only has a small handfull of files in it, like 4 or 5

Is there a way to turn that functionality on/off?
Like have I been favoriting without specifying to put them in that folder?

Before I build that library again I would like to know how to preserve that effort, thanks

Hi,

All your favorites are stored in that one file.

What functionality? There's no option to turn favoriting off, or to stop storing favorites there.
