replace track recording bug or feature MX10?

Post by Scythe »

When I set the track to record as 'replace' as opposed to 'overdub' or 'takes', it does not erase the previous track whilst recording over it, it simple records over it WHILST RETAINING THE PREVIOUS TAKE UNDER IT so that after 10 takes I have a track with 10 takes stacked on top of each other!
This is very annoying & I cannot imagine this being a feature.

Is this a bug? is there some setting I need to toggle to have the new take actually delete the previous take & REPLACE the previous one instead of simply recording over it again and again and ending up in a stack of them one on top of the other?

Hi,

Which build are you using now? What's the recording situation: are you using loop playback, or punch in/punch out?

I tested with loop playback enabled and it worked as it should.

Hi,

I can't get it to happen in build 571, but I don't know that we changed anything in that regard. There was a problem with a really old build, but that problem was fixed a long time ago.

What other factors are involved? MIDI or Audio? Is it in a submix? Does it happen in a brand new empty project?

It's in the audio track - haven't checked in MIDI

not a submix - just normal track

also occurs reliably when I tried it in a brand new project

you mentioned build 571 but I checked in MX10 and it says 'up to date' on build 569?

thank you Greg

Hi,

It shouldn't be happening in build 569, either. We didn't change anything in that regard as far as I know.

When you say that you have takes stacked on top of each other, does it look like this?

Greg

Takes mode in Mixcraft 10.

No - it visually looks like just one take because it's recording on top of the previous take - however all the previous takes in REPLACE MODE are stacked beneath the latest take and can be MANUALLY separated into all the different repeats done in that particular recording time either into separate lanes or tracks
Hope this makes sense

Hi,

I can't get it to happen at all. Does it happen in build 571?

Send us a simple project file that has the problem and we'll check it out.

Hi,

I can't get it to happen with your project either. Check your email in a bit, I replied.

Can anybody else get this to happen?

Just checking, you aren't by any chance holding the ALT key while you are dragging the clips away from the spot they are stacked on are you? If you are, that would seem like stacked clips but it would only be 1 that is copied everytime you hold alt and drag

Just checked - I'm holding the shift key to drop them to another lane or track in order for them to not move in time.
Also that wouldn't explain that the no. of takes always equals the no. of tracks inadvertently copied each time.
