MT Power Drums won't record

Post by jet460 »

I see recording levels as I am recording.
When I stop the recording, the track is blank.
Any suggestions?

Hello,

What do you mean when you say it won't record? What steps are you taking? In general it is designed to build grooves or parts and then drag them onto the track. I'm not sure I understand what you are doing to record.

I arm and record like any other track.
I can see levels like any other track.
When I push stop, the track is blank.

A simple way is to copy the midi (as you did) onto a track.
On the track, right click with your mouse, then select Mix to new audio track.
The audio is then generated on a track beneath your midi track.
You should be able to see an audio waveform which you can then listen to.

Hopefully that works for you.

If you are hitting the play button in MT Power Drummer, it is not outputting MIDI to record. You cannot record that way. You have to drag the patterns onto the track like the example I showed. This is the easiest way.

Another way would be to have an external keyboard or controller on which you play the keys or pads that correspond to the drums. You can then record just like any other track.

The below methods are for creating audio tracks out of the MIDI data but shouldn't be necessary if you can get the MIDI onto MT Power Drummer's track.

There is a way to record directly to audio, but it would require manually syncing the timing to start the composer in MT with the recording point in mixcraft and setting MT as a recording source. The link below is to the manual. Look for the section VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT PARAMETERS and find MIDI Source (Mixcraft Pro Studio only) to understand how to set the recording source. This way is a little more complicated.

If you are able to get your MIDI on the track using the drag and drop method or recording with an external keyboard then you can also follow RaveyDavey's advice if you want to convert it to an audio track.

I was just testing it to see if it worked. Arm the track and hit the bass drum a bunch of times.
Looked like it was recording.
There were levels in the track as it recorded.

And I am sure you are right. I just struggle to find any kind of training that makes sense to me.
If there were classes, I would sign up.

I did find a couple good tutorials about MX9 that covered MIDI drums. That helped. I see what you mean about power drums. You have to drag whatever you use into the composer line, then into the track. I think I understand it now for the most part.
Thanks.

Hi,

A super simple way to record and play back MT Power Kit live is:

1. Add MT to a track - skip the registration if you are using the free version.
2. Hide the it or close it to get it out of the way
3. Press CTRL + ALT + K to open up keyboard typing for entering MIDI notes
4. Press the Z or X key to change the octave until the range below the piano keys reads Range: C2 - F#3

Press the A key and then press the S key. You should hear the kick drum and the snare.

Now arm the track and hit record. Press the A or S key and keep time with the hi-hat by pressing the T key. When you are done, stop the recording and you should have a clip on your drum track. You can play the clip back etc.

I have issues with that plugin too. I have to go into my plugins and reboot the plugin every time that I open my project otherwise it won't play the midi data.

However, you can record your midi data using a number of the kits that come with mixcraft. I think, if I remember right, I usually use the Studio Drums, record my midi data, and then switch out the plugin to MT Power Drums.
