Hum removal
Does Mixcraft come with a stock hum/crackle/noise removal plugin? I already have RX6 De-hum, but it's the demo version and creates silent spots in the audio. If not, what do you recommend, freebie-wise?

Re: Hum removal
Have you tried the noise removal tool in the sound tab, sub-tab 'audio', Jason?

Re: Hum removal
I have not. Thanks for the reminder. I'll let you know how that went...
Re: Hum removal
So, I tried it and it removed the hum, however it also removed a sound I wanted in there. I think a more AI driven plugin would be able to separate it out. But I doubt a freebie will suffice. I'll keep looking.

... or of course, just re-record.

Re: Hum removal
Rerecording like Trev said would be good if that is an option.
Is it hum during silence? I find the built in noise remover to be quite effective. Make sure your sample is of the hum and not additional sound don't turn the intensity up too high.
You can also use TB gate to gate any noise to silence. Just watch your thresholds so you don't gate things like sustain on sounds you want.
Also there is EQ. If you can find the frequencies where the hum lives, you can reduce its presence. This in combination with the built in noise reduction might yield the best results.
Depending on the timbre of the hum, a de-esser might do wonders also.

Re: Hum removal
In this case, rerecording would be impossible. It was an original audio recording I made in the late 80's with a boom box of my friend driving my Ford Torino across the street with a loud muffler and hitting the screeching brakes. It fits perfectly at the end of a track, but there's the distinct hum of the tape when it quiets down. I was able to remove it with RX De-hum but need the full version. I may be able to get away with the noise removal I already applied.
Re: Hum removal
Acon Digital has some great noise reduction tools. Their restoration suite is very good at hum and noise removal.
Re: Hum removal
Thanks. It seems on par with RX. Very effective ad associated with the hum remover. Makes the point very well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... e=emb_logo
Re: Hum removal
Yeah, I think Acon Digital's stuff is similar to RX, just at different price point, but I've never used RX due to cost. I'm pretty amazed at what it can do. Another worth considering is Brusfri by Klevgrand. I looked at both Brusfri and Acon Digital for noise reduction. I just got an email today from Klevgrand indicating updcomoing sale soon on their plugs if keep eye open. Acon Digital usually has sale on the restoration suite at various times of the year also.

Re: Hum removal
Hi,
When using Mixcraft's noise reduction, pay attention to the "noise print" markers. If any audio that you want to keep is inside the markers, find a different area for the noise reduction to sample.
