The midi learn should work no matter what, just hit the midi button and everything you can setup turns blue, highlight the thing you want to set, it turns a darker blue and move the knob/slider on the Korg. When you've done all of the midi learn there go into Mix > Midi Control Surfaces and set up the other stuff.

Do you do the MIDI Learn one item at a time and then click MIDI Learn after each change to disable it before doing the next item?
Or do you click MIDI Learn and then go through ALL the items and THEN click MIDI Learn to disarm it?
Little details that could make a BIG difference but nobody seems to mention these details.

The latter.
Click midi learn, do all you have to do, then click 'stop learning'.

Also, in Korg Kontrol Editor the button in the top left (square just below edit) Global Midi Channel 1, Control Mode CC, LED Mode Internal. This is important!

I should write a tutorial if I succeed in order to have all the proper steps in sequence.

Re: Getting the Korg nanoKontrol2 working with MX7 in Mackie mode
Hi,
With the Korg Nanokontrol2 that I have here, all I have to do is put it in Mackie Control mode and then select that in Mixcraft's Control Surface preferences. I don't know if I have an older model or whatever, but just plain Mackie Control gives me pan, volume, mute solo, etc. for multiple tracks.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for chiming in. I'm returning the unit. It was an open box and maybe something wasn't working with it and the customer returned it. Plus there was no bundled software. So I'll start fresh once I get the new one.
