When I started to take the deep dive 2 years ago, I was immersed in the Japanese music scene. I wasn't into anime but more into the female rock scene. Specifically I was introduced to bands like
Band-Maid (whom I've seen in concert twice in Japan). This also led me to explore other artists including
Hiroyuki Sawano, who is the music composer for a number of famous classic animes like
Attack on Titan. He used a number of featured singers that really meshed with my musical sense. Cut to when I was ready to introduce vocals to my first couple of songs, I had the hairbrained idea to attempt to cold contact some of these Japanese vocalists and see if they wanted to collaborate. With Google Translate as my friend I sent out a number of inquiries. After a few weeks of no replies, I actually had a taker!
This singer was known to mix English with Japanese in her cover songs which also led to the next crazy thought... Have her do the same with my song!
