Control Surface Details

Post by LlyncEwrom »

Hi!

I recently purchased a Behringer X-Touch and discovered that it's only use in Mixcraft is adjusting volume, pan, pressing play, stop, record, and moving the caret around. That was pretty disappointing so I'm considering selling that and creating my own control surface through Yaeltex but I'm a little confused by what some of these commands in the Control Surface Details are supposed to do.

Under Transport, the Select Track command only selects the first track in the mix. Is this supposed to do something else? I notice that the Select buttons work as expected on the X-Touch in that it moves to the track I am selecting. How can I replicate this with the Control Surface Details? My plan for creating a controller would be to have about 16 buttons set aside which allow me to select which track I'm wanting to adjust parameters on. But I'm only able to assign one button to this control so I can't see how it would know what track I am selecting, and again, it only moves to the first track in the mix, including the Master track if that's currently visible.

There are two other commands that I can't seem to get to work under User Interface. They are both of the Move to Previous/Next Marker buttons. They only move caret to the beginning of the track and ignore the other markers. The Play from Previous/Next Marker commands work, but I'm wanting to also utilize the ability to simply move to a marker and not begin playing.

Regarding the X-Touch:

Are there plans to make this more usable with Mixcraft? I realize I can set up the device with the options available in Control Surface Details but this would render the faders and panning useless and I would still not be able to edit FX or plugins the way that Behringer seems to have intended with this device.

I'm not a complete newbie with coding but I'm not at the level needed for scripting a controller. Would it be possible for the script that is used for the Mackie Control to be made available so we can create a copy and edit that instead of needing to start from scratch? I wonder if seeing this script would help me figure some things out. Or maybe in a future update, Mixcraft can only take over the left side of the X-Touch as the Mackie Control, and leave the right side for us to assign?

Some oddities I've noticed with Mixcraft when using the X-Touch in Mackie Control mode:
"Trim"= Undo (though there is an Undo button available that serves no purpose)
"Group" = Redo (instead of maybe "Shift"+"Undo" since there isn't a Redo button)
"Touch" = Save (similar to the Undo button, there is a Save button that doesn't do anything)
"Latch" = Show/hide mixer (there isn't really an option for this, but maybe "Global View" would make more sense?)

Bonus question:

Are there any plans on allowing us to edit FX MIDI Controlls/CC controls for separate tracks similar to how we would use a fader on only the selected track? For instance, being able to use the same compressor on multiple tracks, but only editing the settings on whichever track is selected. Additionally, the ability able to save MIDI/CC Controls for FX and not having to set them up each time would be fantastic.

edit:
(I added an idea to the main Suggestions post)

Mixcraft has really grown over the years, and I'm excited to see it grow further!

Hi,

I think we're going to be making a controller script for the X-Touch.

Here's the API for controller scripts in Mixcraft 10: https://acoustica.com/mixcraft-10-manua ... script-api

I've had a similar problem...

I want to be able to control multiple plugins with one midi controller by the midi controller actually controlling the selected plugin you have selected

Also I can't control the fader paramedics eq on multiple tracks with one midi controller
a simple button to click (in control surface details) may fix this... maybe a button that can let you use selected track in a fader menu will work. You will have to set a fader menu in control surface details for this to work.

I been using mixcraft for 20 years and I love using this DAW but I am now wanting yo use midi controllers and Mixcraft is lacking... can I get a response on if you guys are going to fix this problem do I have to start using another Daw which will suck cause I love Mixcraft.
